- The completion of the engineering degree at U.K. nominally takes two years after transfer. A student need not wait to complete the engineering degree to transfer the necessary credit back to the Cumberlands for completion of the applied physics major.
- Other ABET-accredited engineering schools may be acceptable on a case-by-case basis with appropriate modifications to the major as recommended by the physics advisor and approved by the Registrar.
- If a scheduling conflict prevents any one required course from being completed at the Cumberlands, that course can be completed at the engineering school; however, a minimum of 96 semester hours must be taken at the Cumberlands.
- To optimize transfer credit to U.K., a student must consult with a physics advisor before selecting the mathematics electives.
- The Scientific and Mathematical Awareness section of the General Education Curriculum is fulfilled by courses required elsewhere. The Human and Social Behavior and World Perspective sections of the General Education Curriculum must be coordinated with University Studies requirements at U.K. – a student must consult with a physics advisor before selecting any course in these areas. (A list of recommended courses for fulfilling the requirements of the University of Kentucky’s University Studies Program is provided in the Pre-Engineering section of the Catalog.)
- A student without two years of a single foreign language in high school must take two semesters of French or Spanish. One semester will meet the General Education requirements at the Cumberlands; the other semester will serve as free elective hours.
- Due to prerequisite requirements, a student must complete some introductory engineering courses during U.K.’s eight-week summer session after the junior year at the Cumberlands.
- Acceptable courses must have engineering prefixes and meet the degree requirements in the student’s selected program. No more than 6 hours may be at the 200 level with the remainder at 300+ levels.
