Under the guidance of faculty who continue to challenge themselves with new media and technique, art students at University of the Cumberlands benefit from a curriculum that offers a strong foundation in the traditions of art as well as the opportunity to explore new processes and fresh modes of expression.
Students are exposed to a wide variety of artists and media through their access to the college’s own collection and through organized trips to art museums in nearby cities like Louisville, Cincinnati, and Knoxville.
The faculty, who regularly exhibit their own art, encourage students to view themselves as working artists and to present their best pieces for exhibition. Work by University of the Cumberlands faculty and students has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions and has been reviewed in a variety of newspapers, magazines, and catalogues.
Naturally, some students of art plan to dedicate their careers to producing, exhibiting, and selling their work, often furthering their formal instruction by pursuing graduate degrees. Many prepare to specialize in teaching art, while others benefit from their training through careers in graphic design, display design, advertising, illustration, or art therapy.
