Honor Societies
Pi Kappa Delta is the oldest national honorary society in communication arts. Nearly one hundred years in existence, the motto of the organization is "the art of persuasion, beautiful and just." With over 80,000 alumni members, many have enjoyed being a part of this organization's rich tradition. Membership is open to all who participate in communication activities, and in particular speech and debate competition. As a result, one does not have to be a major in communication arts to join Pi Kappa Delta. There are several levels of membership. For a degree of proficiency, one must participate in communication events for one year. For a degree of special distinction, one needs to demonstrate excellence in communication events for a period of at least two years, possess a 3.0 GPA, and complete a service requirement. Pi Kappa Delta also hosts a convention every two years which is open to all members.
