University of the Cumberlands
Department of Education

The Education Department announces an important program change.

Starting this fall, 2006, students in the Basic Concepts of Education classes (EDUC 235) will be required to begin the education portfolio on-line through a program called Livetext. Students who have completed Basic Concepts in Education prior to fall semester, 2006 have the option to present a paper portfolio, or use Livetext for their portfolio interviews prior to entrance into the actual program.

All students will continue to complete a Portfolio prior to admission to the formal stages of the Education Program, and to complete student teaching. This is done through a paper portfolio of artifacts matching standards that are reviewed by faculty members. The main change is that students beginning in the pre-education phases of the program will no longer submit portfolios by paper in notebooks, but electronically through Livetext.

Students may purchase Livetext in the university bookstore. Contact Ron Nicholas at 4354 for purchasing information. There will be a one-time cost of approximately $89, and Livetext can be accessed and used for five (5) years.

For additional information, contact Dr. Carroll Helm, Director of Undergraduate Education at 606-539-4433 or Norma Patrick at 606-539-4393.
