Dr. Cynthia Norton, a member of the Cumberland College faculty since 1985, attended the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, earning both a B.S. in Physical Education and an M.S. in Safety and Services in 1979, followed by an Ed. D. in Health in 1982.

Dr. Norton’s outstanding achievement in teaching has been recognized several times. In 1990, the Student Government Association designated her as Honored Professor; in 1993, she received the Cumberland College Award for Excellence in Teaching; and in 1998 and 2002, alumni honored her with the J.B. Fuqua Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Norton serves not only Cumberland College, but the local community as well. She is a member of the Healthy Start Consortium, the Whitley County Health Council, and the Whitley County Health Department’s Tobacco Coalition, and Dr. Norton serves on the Board of Directors of the Jellico Community Hospital. In 2004, she was named Better Life Educator by the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities.
