Mr. Alvin Sharpe
Associate Professor of Exercise and Sport Science

 

 

 

Mr. Alvin Sharpe is an alumnus of Cumberland College, having graduated in 1965 with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education. He later attended the University of Alabama, completing an M.Ed. in Health Education in 1971. That same year, he was invited to return to Cumberland College as a member of the faculty.

During his many years as the coach of Cumberland’s Track and Cross Country teams, Mr. Sharpe led seventeen All American teams and two National Champion teams, and was named Coach of the Year six times each by the KIAC and the NAIA.

In recent years, Mr. Sharpe has frequently demonstrated his dedication to the local community. He has served on the Williamsburg High School Youth Service Advisory Council, the Whitley County Fair Board, and as Tourism Chairman for the Cumberland Valley Ad Board, the Southeast Kentucky Industrial Board, and East Kentucky Highlands South. As Tourism Director for the City of Williamsburg, he designed both the Whitley County road map and a regional tourism brochure, and assisted in the design of the Hal Rogers Family Entertainment Center and Splash Water Park.
