The J.T. Vallandingham Scholastic Honor Society

Induction into the J.T. Vallandingham Scholastic Honor Society is one of the highest honors a Cumberland College student can achieve. Established in 1961 and renamed in honor of Dr. J.T. Vallandingham in 1964, the society recognizes students who have exemplified academic excellence throughout their college careers. To be eligible, full-time students must have earned 96 semester hours with a grade point average of at least 3.5 each semester and a cumulative average of 3.7 or higher. At the annual Honors Day ceremony, each new inductee is named and presented with a specially designed gold pin symbolizing the recipient’s devotion to high achievement and his or her ability to light the way for others through knowledge.
