The Cumberland College Honors Program, established in the early 1980’s, offers academically exceptional students the opportunity to advance their study in their major field through intensive, independent research or creative activity. To qualify, students must hold a 3.50 grade point average in their major area, and a 3.30 grade point average overall. Work is carried out under the guidance of a faculty advisor over a two-semester period within the last two years of college. Upon successful completion of the project and approval by the Presidential Scholars Research Committee, the student will be named a “Presidential Scholar” at commencement ceremonies and awarded a specially designed medallion by President Taylor. Professionally bound copies of the written project will be presented to the student, the faculty advisor, the chairperson of the major department, and the Office of the President, where the volume will be prominently displayed.
