Mr. Jeremiah Massengale
Assistant Professor of Communication Arts

J. Bourne

Jeremiah Massengale earned a B.S. in Communication Arts and Business Administration from the University of the Cumberlands. He earned his M.S. in Communication and Information with an emphasis in Converging Media from the University of Tennessee’s School of Journalism and Electronic Media.

While at UT, Massengale was employed as a graduate assistant where his duties included working for the Tennessee High School Press Association and doing research for the compilation, James Agee: Selected Journalism. He has also worked as a research coder as a part of a quantitative academic investigation of offensive language on primetime television.
Additionally, he has worked as an editor and online content producer for the Tennessee Journalist. More recently, Massengale has served as a freelance writer and copy editor for sources like Collide Magazine and Demand Studios.

Prior to becoming a full-time faculty member at the University of the Cumberlands in 2007, he taught courses in speech communication as an adjunct professor at both UC and Lincoln-Memorial University.

Currently, Massengale serves as the director of UC’s Journalism and Public Relations program. He is also the faculty adviser for The Patriot, the official student newspaper of the University of the Cumberlands.

He is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Intercollegiate Online News Network, College Media Advisers, the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the IJPC (Image of the Journalist in Popular Culture) Associates.
