Dr. Jonathan Ramey chose Cumberland College, his hometown college, as the best place to begin his higher education in mathematics, earning a B.A. in 1987. He continued his education at Vanderbilt University, earning an M.A. in Mathematics in 1989. He joined the Cumberland College faculty in 1991 while pursuing a Ph.D. in Graph Theory at Vanderbilt, which he completed in 1994.

Dr. Ramey is a member of the Mathematical Association of America, the American Mathematical Society, and Kappa Mu Epsilon, the mathematics honor society. He has been recognized in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, and he recently taught the course, Isaac Newton: Mathematician and Scientist, in London, England, as part of a summer program that enrolls students from all over the United States.
