Dr. Tyrone Bynoe

T. Bynoe

Dr. Bynoe holds a B.A. in American History (1978), M.A. in Social Studies with a focus on European History (1985), M.S. Ed. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies (1990), and a M.A. in American History (1992)--all earned at the University of Albany (NY). Dr. Bynoe earned an Ed.D. in Educational Administration at Teachers College-Columbia University in 2004.   Furthermore, Dr. Bynoe completed graduate courses in Special Education during the 1978-1979 school year.   Additionally, Dr. Bynoe has several administrative and teaching licenses in both Kentucky and New York.

Since Fall 2004, Dr. Bynoe has taught at the University of the Cumberlands with a heavy focus on Educational Leadership and Administration.  He has special expertise in school business management, school finance, applied research, and research methods.  Dr. Bynoe maintains a keen interest in the policy of technology integration in K-12 public schools, and is currently completing two peer reviewed articles, featuring the first on early twentieth century education finance policy and the second on an evaluation of the effective implementation of Kentucky's student-information-system (namely, Infinite Campus).

Dr. Bynoe has an extensive background of service to the university and to the community. He provides advisement to graduate students and undergraduate students, serves on several Educational Department committees, and is a professional association consultant to two organizations:  (Commonwealth Collaborative of School Leadership Programs [CCSLP] and the National Education Finance Conference [NEFC]).  In October 2010, Dr. Bynoe was appointed to a three-year term as a member of the Board of Advisors to the National Education Finance Conference [NEFC].

Dr. Bynoe has a rich background in supervisory and pedagogical practice.  He has been a New York State public school-administrator in various assignments involving grades K to 12. These assignments included Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Instructional Services, and Director of Special Education. He has also been a classroom teacher of History and the Social Studies in New York State.  In his teaching assignment, Dr. Bynoe taught every course in the Social Studies, grades 7 through 12, at all ability levels.

Dr. Bynoe’s academic interests are in school-finance, effective-schools, teacher quality, organizational behavior, public school supervision, educational history, and computer applications.  Outside of education disciplines, Dr. Bynoe has an interest in diplomatic and global history from 1936 to the present.
