Dr. David Etter
Professor of Music

 

 

 

Dr. David Etter is well known throughout the community for his work as the director of the Cumberland College Chorale and of numerous musical productions for the Cumberland College Theatre, including The Sound of Music, The Mikado, Camelot, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He is also the founder and director of the Cumberland Regional Community Chorus.

Dr. Etter earned a Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.) from Southern Baptist University in 1973. He then moved on to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he completed a Master of Music (M.M.) in Choral Conducting in 1978. In 1994, four years after joining the faculty of Cumberland College, he received a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

In addition to his teaching and directing duties for the college, Dr. Etter frequently judges entrants at musical competitions throughout Kentucky and Tennessee, and has served as the Interim Minister of Music at several local churches. He is also an active member of a number of professional organizations: the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference, the Music Educators National Conference, the Kentucky Music Educators Association, and the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada.
