Joe Early Jr., is an assistant professor of religion at the University of the Cumberlands
in Williamsburg, Kentucky. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree
from Cumberland College in 1993, a Master of Divinity degree from Midwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1998, and a Doctor
of Philosophy Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2002.
Before coming to Cumberland, Dr. Early served as a visiting assistant
professor of religion at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He is the author
of A Texas Baptist History Sourcebook, A Handbook of Texas Baptist, A Student’s Guide to the New Testament, A Student’s Guide to the Old Testament, The Building of a Church, A Texas Baptist Power Struggle: The Hayden Controversy, and Readings in Baptist History. He has a eighth book entitled The Life and Writings of Thomas Helwys that is due to be released by Mercer University Press in the Spring of 2009. Dr. Early has many published articles in scholarly journals and presented papers at several historical societies around the United States.
