University of the Cumberlands
Department of Human Services & Social Work

The goals and mission statement of University of the Cumberlands' Human Services & Social Work department are an outgrowth of the University of the Cumberlands. While located in the resort-like area of Appalachia, where the emphasis is primarily on serving students from the beautiful mountain area, there are Human Services & Social Work students coming from a variety of states.

The Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits the University.

The objectives of the Department of Human Services & Social Work are:

  1. Build upon liberal arts as a foundation for Human Services & Social Work practice.
  2. Prepare students for careers in generalist Human Services & Social Work practice to work with individuals, groups, organizations and communities in a variety of changing societies.
  3. To offer promising students a broad educational background in Human Services & Social Work including a Christian historical perspective that may influence traditional Human Services & Social Work practice. Human Services & Social Work students may have eventually an opportunity to change society as they deliver human services in a complex world.
  4. Prepare students for professional graduate school and life-long learning and career service.

Potential students are encouraged to contact the Human Services & Social Work Department if additional information is needed.
