1999 Bachelor of Science in
Exercise and Sport Science Degree and Business Administration
I graduated from the Cumberlands in 1999. Some people spend all of their lives trying to figure out what direction they want their careers to take and others, like me, just knew from day one. From my early days as a teenager dreaming of going to the Olympics or sitting behind the desk at the Cumberlands, I always knew that my passion was to spread the word of healthy living and help as many people as possible reach their personal goals. The education I earned at the University of the Cumberlands has more than enabled me to live my passion, my dream.
Upon graduation I utilized my business training and worked for the Target Corporation but in 2001, I went to work in Indianapolis for Olympian Bob Kennedy and Ashley Johnson's company, The Running Company (now renamed the Blue Mile) a specialty running and walking store with 5 locations in Indiana and Kentucky and counting. I am currently the General Manager supervising 45 employees and serving thousands of customers weekly. Our customers rely on us for guidance, education, motivation and to celebrate their success with them. Every day is different, from our training programs, which have close to 300 runners and walkers at any one time, to our footwear fitting process that uses video gait analysis. Customers put a lot of trust in us as a Company and it is my responsibility to create an amazing experience and not just a transaction. I have been truly blessed to have made my passion into a career and truly indebted to the University of the Cumberlands for equipping me with the tools to be successful for a very long time. I do not think words can effectively convey how important my time at Cumberland has been to my career... Not a day goes by without me dipping into the knowledge bank pulling something out to use.
