Before turning his focus to biblical studies, Dr. Bob Dunston earned his first advanced degree in mathematics, completing a B.S. at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1971. In 1977, he earned an M.Div. in Biblical Studies from the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, followed in 1979 by a Th.M. in Biblical Studies from the Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, and a Ph.D. in Old Testament Studies from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983.

Since joining the faculty of Cumberland College in 1983, Dr. Dunston has been repeatedly honored for excellence in teaching. The Student Government Association has selected him three times as Honored Professor: in 1984, 1990, and 1997. In 1989, he received the Cumberland College Award for Excellence in Teaching, and he was presented with the J.B. Fuqua Award in 1996, 1998, and 2000. In 1997, Theta Alpha Kappa, the national religion honor society, recognized him with the Kathleen Connolly-Weinert Leader of the Year Award.

Dr. Dunston is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion, American Academy of Religion,and the National Association of Professors of Hebrew. He also serves as Treasurer of the Theta Alpha Kappa, the National Religion Honor Society.

When he became a member of the University of the Cumberlands [formerly Cumberland College] faculty in 2001, Dr. Kirby Clark brought with him nearly 30 years’ worth of experience as a minister and professor of religion. He was a teaching assistant at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and taught at Wayland Baptist University, as well as for the Southern Baptist Seminaries’ Seminary Extension program in various locations.

Dr. Clark received B.A. (English-Philosophy) from the University of New Mexico; an M.P.S. (public administration) from Western Kentucky University (while serving as an officer in the US Army, stationed at Fort Campbell, KY); and the M.R.E., Ed.D., and Ph.D. degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Clark is a member of the Association for Ministry Guidance Professionals (AMGP), and represents UC at the annual meetings of the AMGP. He has served in various leadership capacities with the organization, including president and member of the AMGP Board of Directors.

Dr. Clark teaches courses in Old Testament, New Testament, and practical ministries. He also teaches courses in UC’s Master of Arts in Christian Studies (MACS) graduate program.
