Q & A with Ki Young

1. Why did you choose University of the Cumberlands?

I chose UC because it gave me a secure feeling. I felt God leading me here and I know my time here will help me to accomplish my goals.

2. What is there to do on the weekends?

We have a game room on campus, sports facilities and, if you want to study, the library is open. Mainly, I hang out with my friends. We always find something to do.

3. What is the food like?

The cafeteria provides a lot of variety. Often, they will offer new menu items to see if the students like them. Williamsburg has most of the popular fast-food places, so if you get tired of the cafeteria, you can always go out with your friends for a change of pace.

4. What are the residence halls like?

Some of the residence halls are newer than others, however, it’s all about the people. All of the men’s residence halls are air-conditioned and offer cable, telephone and Internet hook ups. Each hall has Resident Assistants (R.A.’s) who are there to help you when needed.

5. Do you feel safe on campus?

The campus is peaceful and I have had no safety issues. There is a campus security presence and the University strives to make the campus as safe as possible.

6. What recommendations do you have for incoming students?

UC is not a large university, but it has much to offer and people truly care for you. It is easy to make friends and get involved. The time will fly by, so make the most of it by pouring yourself into the things that you enjoy most.

7. Is it hard to balance academics with extra curricular activities?

It was a little hard for me at first because of the language barrier. As an international student, not only is the language different, but the culture, as well. I discovered that organization is key and if you seek solutions in learning to balance it all, there are people who are willing to help.

8. What are your plans after University of the Cumberlands?

I feel led to do medical research and I hope to attend graduate school at Johns Hopkins University. My dream is to be useful for God.
