1. Why did you choose University of the Cumberlands?
I looked for a school where there was a good balance between academics and athletics. I hoped to play basketball, but wanted to focus on my degree. I have found that balance here.
2. What is there to do on weekends?
I love sports. UC has 11 varsity sports for men and 11 for women, so there is always some type of athletic event going on. I mostly hang out with my friends and we can always find something to do.
3. What is the food like?
There is a good selection of food in the dining hall. If you get tired of your options there, you can go to the Grill and get your food made to order. It’s really good, but I’m a little bias because I work there!
4. What are the residence halls like?
Residence halls are a great place to meet new people and develop good friendships. Learning to share a room may not be easy for everyone, but students are placed with someone who at least shares common interests. They ask lots of questions on the housing form and if you have a friend coming, you can room with that person as long as you request early.
5. Do you feel safe on campus?
I feel perfectly safe on campus. There is a real sense of community here.
6. What recommendations do you have for incoming students?
If you are from a large city like me, give it some time. Williamsburg is a small town, but if you make friends and get involved on campus, you will have a good experience.
7. Is it hard to balance academics with extra curricular activities?
It can be, particularly if you keep putting things off like papers, etc. It doesn’t take too long to figure it out. The Academic Resource Center is available which provides peer tutoring and the service is free.
8. Where do you see yourself after University of the Cumberlands?
As most serious athletes do, I would love to play semi-pro or pro basketball. At this point, I have not chosen a major, however, whenever basketball is over for me, I want to have a career that is enjoyable and rewarding. |
