1. Why did you choose University of the Cumberlands?
I chose UC first and foremost because I knew God was leading me here. The warmth of so many people, the beauty of the campus, and the endless opportunities to grow spiritually, academically, and socially each shouted to me, “You belong here!”
2. What is there to do on the weekends?
I’ve spent many of my weekends ministering at various churches in the area through campus ministries. On other occasions my friends and I have found creative ways to have fun such as “Adam Sandler movie day”. Big events like concerts and sports events are no more than an hour away ( Knoxville, TN).
3. What is the food like?
Participating in countless sports camps in high school, I had the opportunity to test several college cafeterias. In comparison, UC holds its’ own. I can always find something I like, which is impressive since I’m extremely picky. Most importantly, there’s always ice cream!
4. What are the residence halls like?
Again, those sports camps took me to dorms across the nation. I never stayed in a dorm room as nice as I’m staying in now. Beyond that, all my suite-mates are friends. That makes it a great atmosphere – and a haven for some good pranks!
5. Do you feel safe on campus?
I can’t recall ever feeling unsafe on campus. Campus Security does an excellent job of maintaining a secure atmosphere.
6. What recommendations do you have for incoming students?
Expect great things! Your college experience is what you make it. If you are willing to put in the time and start out with optimism, you’ll surely succeed. When you arrive on campus, don’t lock yourself in your dorm room. Get involved – you’ll be glad you did.
7. Is it hard to balance academics with extracurricular activities?
It really depends on how much you choose to put on your plate. College will be a time where you learn to juggle many things at once, but you can’t do it all. There is no overwhelming difficulty for the student who knows when to draw the line.
8. Where do you see yourself after University of the Cumberlands?
If I were graduating today, I would soon be shipping out to the foreign mission field for two years as part of the North American Mission Board’s Journeyman Program. At that point, there may be seminary, more mission work or a career in full-time evangelism. God is in control of the details and I am honored that University of the Cumberlands will be a part of them all |
