The University of the Cumberlands Patriot Cheerleaders has high expectation for the 2009-2010 seasons. Last year the Patriots overcame injuries and setbacks to prove to be tough competitors to their opponents. The Patriots earned a second place trophy at the Mid-South Conference Championship. The Patriots have several girls returning from the 08-09 season. Returners include, Danni Barton (Williamsburg, KY), Whitney Horn (Corbin, KY), Amanda Howard (Salyersville, KY), Debra Isles (Cincinnati, OH), Randi Rhodes (Williamsburg, KY), Deavin Stewart (Lynch, KY), Erin White (Williamsburg, KY), Chelsea Belt (Keavy, KY), Corissa Black (Williamsburg, KY), Kirby Soles (Corbin, KY), Deanna Dodd (Corbin, KY), Ashley Freeman (Williamsburg, KY), Erin Hammond (Barbourville, KY), Rebecca Hatmaker (Wallins Creek, KY), Chelsea Hill (Lake City, TN), Mickie Howard (Dale City, VA) Michelle Lewis (London, KY), Kendra McCollum (Paint Lick, KY), and Kirby Wagner (Jonesboro, AR). The Patriots are excited about the new talent coming in with their 2009 freshman class. Newcomers for the 09-10 season are Diontae Ellington (Lexington, KY), Mikaela Lainhart (London, KY), Blake Saylor (Bledsoe, KY), Brittany Bostic (Jacksboro, TN), Erica Christian (London, KY), Lyndsey Cornett (Cumberland, KY), Brooke Estep (Lynch, KY), Rebecca Franks (Cumberland, KY), Cody Hurst (Williamsburg, KY), Elizabeth James (London, KY), Danielle Jarboe (Williamsburg, KY), Amber Wells (Corbin, KY), and Kelsey White (Williamsburg, KY). University of the Cumberlands Head Coach Beth Wooly said, “Last year we lost our team captain Amy Beth Shemwell (Trenton, KY). She was a leader for all of her teammates and her experience and dedication will be missed. However, this year there are a lot of key returners who bring a great deal to the team. With the dedication, talent, and ambition from last year’s team and the talent of our new faces, the team is sure to meet any goal. I am excited for the upcoming season and I know that this year’s team will work hard and prove that UC has the talent to win.”
