Mr. Floyd Stroud
Head Coach - Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Track and Field

Coach Stroud begins his 16th year as University of the Cumberlands' Head Women’s Track and Cross Country Coach. He restarted a program that was dropped in 1982 and has returned it to national prominence. The men's cross country team has had top 20 finishes in the NAIA National Meet in 15 of the past 16 years while the track program has slowly developed into one of the NAIA’s best.

A graduate of the University of the Cumberlands with a BS in Business, Coach Stroud later earned his Masters at Union College. As an athlete at Cumberland, he was named to the Outstanding College Athletes of America publication in both 1972-73 and 1973-74. He earned all conference and all district honors his sophomore, junior, and senior years in both cross country and track. While competing in the NAIA national cross country championships, Coach Stroud helped lead his Cumberlands teams to high national rankings.

As the University's head cross country coach over the past 15 years, Coach Stroud has been named the Mid South Regional Coach of the Year 8 of the last 10 years. While Coach Stroud oversees the entire track and field program, he specializes in coaching middle distance and distance runners where his athletes have earned over 80 All American honors in both cross country and track.

Coach Stroud and his wife, Geraldine, have 2 daughters, Amy and Holly and reside in Williamsburg.

Mr. B.J. Temple
Assistant Coach - Track and Cross Country

B.J. Temple is entering his eighth season as an assistant track and cross country coach at the University of the Cumberlands. Coach Temple has been a part of Cumberland’s Track and Cross Country program since the fall of 1998. During his first year, he was a member of the third place cross country team at the NAIA National Championships. The following season he joined the coaching staff as a student assistant and moved into a full-time position in the spring of 2001.

As an assistant coach, he has worked with the men and women’s cross country teams, sprints, and middle distance events during the indoor and outdoor track seasons. Coach Temple has proven to be successful as an assistant coach with over 54 All-Americans and 10 National Titles.

Numerous athletes have had record-breaking accomplishments under his guidance. In his term as a Patriot coach, his athletes have changed the record books drastically, owning 18 indoor and 15 outdoor school records in various events, including 10 National Championships, five 4 x 800 meter relays (2 indoor, 2 outdoor) and five individual titles. One of his All-American athletes includes Anthony Kabara who ran a personal best of 1:45.29 for 800 meters, and, at the time, it was the third fastest time in the world. Coach Temple is continuing to coach Kabara in pursuit of his Olympic dreams.

Coach Temple has his B.S. degree in movement leisure studies and his Master's degree in sport science with an emphasis in sport coaching from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama. He is also USA Track and Field Level I and II certified in endurance.

Before his Coaching career, Temple ran for Brevard College, where he was an All-American and hails from upstate New York. He currently lives in Williamsburg, with his wife, Jamey.
