University of the Cumberlands Men's Golf Preview Spring 2006
The University of the Cumberlands Men's Golf team is preparing for a successful spring season after ending the fall season with one win, a second, and three third place finishes. The men are looking to earn a place in the NAIA National Tournament in Olathe, Kansas.
The men start their season off at the Lincoln Memorial University Invitational and then will travel to a tournament at Berry College. Then, the University of the Cumberlands will host the Southeastern Kentucky Intercollegiate at the Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Kentucky in late March. There will be 22 teams with six teams in the NAIA's top 25. After the Intercollegiate, the Patriots have a few one day tournaments at Georgetown and Campbellsville and then they travel to Indianapolis for the NAIA Classic at the Brickyard. UC will host the NAIA Region IX and Mid-South Conference tournaments at the London Country Club in April.
Key returning players for the Patriots are Eric King, a senior from Somerset, KY, who won the Trevecca Nazarene tournament and posted five top finishes, Justin Price, a sophomore from Somerset, KY, who had a pair of top five finishes while averaging 75.8 with scores of 75 or better, and Willis Ring, a senior from Whitesburg, KY, who had a pair of top 10 finishes. Other upperclassmen include Brandon Cornett, a senior from Hazard, KY who had his career low of 71 in the Trevecca Nazarene tournament and Michael Peters, a junior from London, KY.
Newcomers for the men are Eric Fuldner, a freshman from Alexandria, KY, who made the top five and finished in the top 20 of every tournament he played this fall. Also, Eric Seay, a freshman from Knoxville, TN, who played in only three tournaments this fall, but showed a great deal of promise. Joining the team for his senior year is Gerry Brennan from Ireland. He's played a few tournaments with the team over the years while he played soccer but now he can concentrate on golf for his final semester.
The golf Patriots look to improve on their 2005 performances as they make their way to the green at the NAIA National Championship.
