University of the Cumberlands Men's Golf Preview Spring 2007

With the spring just around the corner, the men’s golf team is ready for the upcoming season. Coach Bill Sergent commented, “I am very excited about the spring season as we have practiced extremely well and now we just need to carry it over into the tournaments.”

Although the team lost a few players at the beginning of the semester, they have already added two new players. The men lost All Conference player and MSC Player of the Year Runner-up Eric King, but returning for the Patriots are All Conference players Justin Price and Michael Peters.

The Patriots started the fall season at the Wasiota Fall Kick-Off Invite, where the Cumberlands finished 12 th, and Nathan White led the team finishing in the Top 25. At the University of the Cumberlands Invitational, the team finished 4 th and White and Justin Price both had Top 25 finishes.

The Patriots traveled to Campbellsville University to compete in the Don Bishop Tournament where the Patriots placed 3 rd individually, five players placed in the Top 20. Nathan White finished 7 th, Justin Price finished 8 th, Caleb Ewald finished 10 th, Aaron Grubb finished 11 th, and Michael Peters finished 19 th. At Centre College, Justin Price placed his highest for the season at 3rd, while three other Patriots finished in the Top 25.

The Patriots finished 7 th at the Lindsey Wilson College Fall Invitational, where two players finished in the Top 20. Finishing off the fall season, the men traveled to Rome, GA to compete in the Berry College Invitational. Nathan White placed the highest at 17 th.

Coach Sergent and his team are competing in three very important tournaments this spring; the Berry College Invitational, the Patriots own Southeastern Kentucky Intercollegiate, and the NAIA Classic in Indianapolis. Sergent commented on the tournaments, “The Berry College Invitational always has a strong field and our tournament, which has a 19 team field from seven states including at least four nationally ranked teams, will be tough. The NAIA Classic also has a very good field with teams from all over the country.”

The Patriots begin their spring season on March 9 th traveling to Berry College in Rome, GA.
