University of the Cumberlands Men's Golf 2003-2004 Wrap-Up
This season the men’s golf team took turns carrying the torch for the Patriots. On five occasions the Patriots were led by sophomore Eric King. However, junior Barron Davis led the way for Cumberlands in three tournaments, but not to be out done, Eddie Parman set the pace for the Patriots twice.
University of the Cumberlands began the season by taking a trip to Harrogate, Tennessee to play in the Lincoln Memorial Invitational. The Patriots started out the season strong by bringing home a second place finish with their maroon team and a fourth place finish with their white team. Leading the charge for Cumberlands were three top ten finishers including, Barron Davis, Eric King and Eddie Parman.
On March 15 the men ventured to St. Andrews Presbyterian College to compete in their invitational. They left with a tenth place finish (out of twenty teams) and a seventh place finish for Eric King.
During the week of March 22-28 Barron Davis was awarded the Mid-South Conference Golfer of the Week award for his efforts in the Eastern Kentucky University Invitational. After three days of competition Davis ended with a Patriot low of 228 and a low round of 70.
Cumberlands hosted its annual Southeaster Kentucky Intercollegiate Tournament on April 1-2. Two competitors, Eddie Parman and Eli Norris, both of whom recorded scores of 154 and tied for twelfth, led the men. The Patriots brought home an eighth place finish out of nineteen teams.
The men’s golf team enjoyed their best stretch of the season between April 6 and April 10. During that week the Patriots enjoyed a second place finish at the Georgetown College Invitational and a first place finish at the Berea College Invitational. In Georgetown tournament winner Eric King led the Patriots, while he was accompanied in the top ten by Barron Davis. In Berea there was a host of Patriots on the leader-board. At the top of the leader-board was Eddie Parman. He was followed in the top ten by Brent Morris, Barron Davis, Eric King, Brandon Cornett, Matt Sims, Tom Shepard and Michael Peters.
The University of the Cumberlands Patriots finished their season in Chapel Hill, Tennessee with an eighth place finish they hadn’t quite hoped for. In this last tournament of the season Eric King led them with a final score of 77-79-72-228.
Even though the men didn’t finish the season with their best effort they still have a lot to look forward to next season. Barron Davis (Academic All Conference), Eddie Parman, Eric King and Tyrus York are all quality contributors that will be returning to take turns carrying the torch for the Patriots. However, the Patriots will miss the efforts of the Mid-South Scholar Athlete of the Year and Academic All Conference member Brent Morris, who will be attending the University of Kentucky’s Medical School. Other contributions that will be missed are those of Justin Williams, who was an Academic All Conference member, and those of two-sport star Matt Sims.
