Men’s Golf 2005-2006 Wrap-Up
The 2005-2006 season for the University of the Cumberlands Men’s Golf Team was somewhat of a struggle, but turned out to be a successful season.
The team played very well throughout the season and their talents showed in the team finishes as well as individual finishes. Going into the spring season, the men received votes in the NAIA pre-season poll and had high expectations for starting the season.
The men started their season off right placing 4th at the Lincoln Memorial Invitational with Eric King placing 1st in the tournament. Willis Ring, Justin Price, Eric Fuldner and Eric Seay also placed in the top 20. Continuing their success, the men placed 10th as they traveled to Rome, GA to compete in the Berry College Tournament. As the men hosted the Southeastern Kentucky Intercollegiate Invitational, the men placed 2nd. Finishing 4th at the Georgetown Invitational, all players placed in the top 20. The men struggled individually at the NAIA Classic, but as a team, they ended up in 9th place, and finishing off their spring season, the men placed 5th at the NAIA/Region XI tournament. Three players finished in the top 20.
The men also had a very successful season off the green. Two players were recognized as All-Conference and Academic All-Conference. Eric King was recognized as Player of the Week, All-Conference, and Academic All-Conference. Also receiving Academic All-Conference was Justin Price.
Although the men finished their season on top, they will be losing three very valuable players. With the loss of their seniors, the men will have to be ready to step up their game and keep their focus to advance to the National Tournament.
