Women’s Golf 2006-2007 Wrap-Up
This season for the women's team has been a very rough season with only four players. The women held their own even though the scores might not have shown their efforts. Coach Bill Sergent commented, "This women's team had their backs against the wall all season having only four players so all of their scores had to count and that is always is tough for the players but they had a lot of fun."
The ladies started the year off finishing 6th at their own tournament with a combined score of 890. The ladies placed 6th at the Campbellsville Tournament with a combined score of 910. At the Centre Tournament, the ladies tied for 2nd with a score of 432, and finishing out the fall season they placed 8th at the Lindsey Wilson College Invitational with a score of 874.
Beginning the spring season, the ladies competed in the Campbellsville University Invitational where they took 5th place with a total of 465. As the ladies hosted the University of the Cumberlands Invitational, they placed 7th with a score of 412. Ending the spring season at the MSC Tournament, the ladies faced an injury during the first round and did not finish as a team. Three ladies finished as individuals. Sergent commented, “The ladies had some good rounds but we just need to add a couple of more players so we can be competitive again."
Key returning players for the women are Shannon Schottelkott ( Springfield, OH), Katie Akins ( Corbin, KY), Margaret Warren ( Claypool, IN), and Emily Sturgill ( Pineville, KY). Newcomers for the women are Kayla Peace (Whitley Co. HS), who Coach Sergent commented, "Will really make a difference next season”; Ashley Burton ( Kingsport, TN) and Whitney Hope Blankenship (Pike Co, Central). Sergent believes Blankenship, "Will give us some depth next year that we haven't had the last couple of seasons."
The ladies will be more competitive next season with more players and more versatility on the green.
