University of the Cumberlands Men's Soccer 04-05 Preview

Being knocked out of the semifinals in the Mid-South Conference Tournament last year left a bad taste for the University of the Cumberlands Men's Soccer Team.  This year they are back to finish where they left off.  The Men's Soccer Team finished last season with a record of 8-6-4 and in second place in the Mid-South Conference.  With another year of experience, the team will look to giant strides during the 2004 season.

The Patriots lost some valuable leadership with the lose of James Devenay and Russel Huggon.  However, the team will be returning several experienced players.  Last year nine freshman saw playing time and will put the knowledge they gained to work this year.  Senior Steven DeGeorge will man the goalie position for the Patriots once again this year.  He has started at goalkeeper for the past two years.  Sophomore Shawn Picou will, also, be a dominate force on the field this year.  Picou led the team in goals, assists, and points last season.  The Patriots had a very success recruiting year as they signed several talented freshman who should make a great impact.

Head Coach Chris Little comments, "I am very excited about 2004.  We have an excellent group of returning players and a very exciting new group of freshman coming in.  We will have good depth and the squad will be very competitive."

The Men's Soccer Team has a fierce schedule this year as they play four NCAA II schools.  They open with Francis Marion on August 27.  The Patriots may have some tough competition, but they are ready to take on any opponent.
