Women's Soccer Coaches Corner

The Women’s Soccer Team has just ended training camp, and we are about to start our 2005 season. Hopefully, I can stay current with all these coach’s corner so everyone that wants to know what is going on can find out. This is my first year in the program, and I will be assisted by Gary Rach. Coach Rach comes to the program from FL where I also spent the last four years coaching at Palm Beach Atlantic University as the Head Men and Women’s Soccer Coach then just the Head Men’s Soccer Coach. Coach Rach and I have been working well together, are on the same page and giving the girls a lot of resources to be successful. Additionally, he has a strong background in training keepers which has been extremely valuable. Kristin Tepe has also been helping out. Kristin as some of you know played last year and actually the last four years for the team.

The team has progressed throughout pre-season although to be quite honest I hoped the progression would have been quicker and permanent. We played University of Alabama Huntsville on August 20 in an exhibition and quickly found that there was more work to be done. We did not play well for 60 minutes but did finish the last 30 very well. I was expecting a little more of a motivated team coming back from the scrimmage but that was not the case. From that point on, Coach Rach and I have been pushing the ladies to be committed to training at a higher level. The team has set some high goals; most are attainable but will take effort, dedication, focus, and discipline in training to do so. Something the girls are still learning how to do day in and day out. There have been flashes of this in practices, but I still believe in order for the team to be successful it needs to be the norm. Then our results on the field will be consistent. Our fitness level has been improving quite a bit and in two weeks the team should the majority of players very fit. That is it for now. I will have more to report after our first week of games.
