I felt very confident going into the match on Thursday against Campbellsville. The team had been working hard and been better at executing what we had been training them in. The first 7 and 1/2 minutes we played extremely well. Their team came out hard, and I could tell they were a committed side. Our bright start was awarded with a goal. However with that goal scored came a collision between our player and their keeper. Their keeper came out late, ran in to our player and got hurt. That stopped the game for several minutes. The keeper was able to walk off on her own, but when the game restarted we lost our way. For the rest of the half, we struggled to string passes together. Out of the back we gave the ball away because of lack of composure and when we did advance the ball down the field in our possession we could not solve their sweeper. She played a bit deeper then we were use to seeing and probably the first time all year we have seen a team play with a sweeper. We did have some quality moments in the first half, but you cannot count on moments to win you games. Midway through the first half, their player floated a ball toward goal that our keeper misread. She started back too late and was only to get a hand on it but only to put it against the post and in. The game stood 1-1 at halftime, and I knew this was a game we could not afford to lose. This team was outworking us and using their skill better then us even though we were the better side. We improved a little in the 2 nd half. We had more opportunities then them but most were from outside the 18. We had several inside the 18 but not as many as we are use to creating. They were less dangerous in the 2 nd half with the majority of the time only sending 3-4 players forward. The 2 nd half ended still in a tie, and the game went to overtime. Overtime it only takes one lucky break, and you can win a game. There is no more time to make up for that mistake. We had the play in their end for the majority of the 8 minutes but again were unable to generate any dangerous goal scoring opportunities. They were awarded a free kick just outside our box. Their player hit a ball that went over out wall, hit the underside of the crossbar, and bounced in. Game, set and match them. A very disappointing loss to a team that we were better then but worked harder then us and showed more desire on that day. We are still searching for that consistency day in and day out. That loss really puts our backs against the wall as far as the playoffs are concerned. We will need to get some quality wins to help us out. Next up for us is a Goliath of a game against Lindsey Wilson who is currently #2 in the country. We play them Tuesday at our place. The men play Lindsey Wilson who is #1 in the country this Monday at home. That game will be a great one. We also play Saturday at home against Oakland City University at 2pm.
