The Patriot ladies recently finished their season with a final record of 8-9-3 after a loss to Georgetown College in the first round of the Region XI tournament, as the second visit to regions in four years. After finishing 1-2-1 in the Mid-South Conference, the Patriot ladies won in the first round of the tournament against Lambuth University followed by a loss to the eventual national championship winners Lindsey Wilson College in the second round.
Freshman forward Lesley Bryan led the team with nine goals along with three assists garnering 21 points for the season. Bryan also received first team all-conference honors along with junior center mid-fielder Dana Ferguson. Ferguson led the team with seven assists along with four goals to make 15 points for the season. Ferguson also received honors for Region XI making the second team.
The team not only excelled on the field but in the classroom as well. With an overall GPA of 3.3, several ladies received honors. Receiving All-Conference honors were Tori Hogg, Dawn Marshall, Sarah Martin, Rachel Morrin, Melanie Roberts, Ashley Tepe, Lindsey Whiteman, and Tina Winebrenner. Recognized nationally receiving Daktronics-NAIA All-America Scholar Athletes were Dawn Marshall, Rachel Morrin, Melanie Roberts, and Tina Winebrinner.
Gaining 15 freshmen at the beginning of the season and losing only six seniors at the end will prove to only have a minor impact on the team. Key returners from the freshmen group will be Kelly Mason, Jody Adams, Lesley Bryan, and Katie Delozier. These girls should provide a good foundation to the team along with other key returners junior Melissa Neale, who had to sit out towards the end of the season due to an ankle injury, and junior Melanie Roberts. Though the seniors will be missed, the Patriot ladies should pack a punch in the season to come.
