University of the Cumberlands Women’s Soccer Fall 2005 Wrap-Up
The 2005 season for the Patriot Ladies was a learning experience. With a completely new coaching staff and many new freshmen in the starting lineup, there were new positions to get used to, a new formation to learn, and a new overall style of play to transition into.
The year started out pretty rough with a season opening loss in a scrimmage against the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Later, after back to back wins over Tennessee Wesleyan and Berea College, the ladies looked to even out the playing field. There were marked improvements made throughout the season and in the end, the ladies qualified for a regional tournament appearance. Their season record of 8-9-2 is a good descriptor of the season. Not unbelievable in either direction, but a fairly solid foundation on which to build upon next season.
The team was led in scoring by Lesley Bryan ( Bartow, FL) with 13 goals. Leslie Allred ( Knoxville, TN) and Dana Ferguson ( Brunswick, OH) each added 10 goals a piece. Assist leaders included Rebecca Rube (Louisville, KY) and Nery Saucedo (Bartow, FL) with five each, and Dana Ferguson with four.
The Patriot Ladies found quite a few of their own in the rankings for all conference honors. Lesley Bryan, Leslie Allred, and Dana Ferguson all were named to the second team. Receiving honorable mention were Melissa Neale (Nicholasville, KY), Melanie Roberts (Owensboro, KY), and Nery Saucedo.
The team was not only honored for their performance on the field but in the classroom as well. Jody Adams (Prescott, AZ), Katie Delozier (Crestwood, KY), Dana Ferguson, Tori Hogg (Cabot, AR), Kelly Mason (Florence, KY), Rachel Morrin (Richmond, KY), Christy Noel (Greenville, TN), Bethany Ott (Knoxville, TN), and Melanie Roberts all received academic all-conference honors.
