University of the Cumberlands Women’s Soccer 2006 Wrap-Up

The University of the Cumberlands Women’s soccer team completed their season with an overall 7-12-1 record.

Improving from last year, the Patriots made it to the Mid-South Conference Tournament and fell to the 2006 National Champions, Lindsey Wilson College.

Cumberlands finished as the fourth seed in regular season conference action, defeating Pikeville College and West Virginia Tech University.

Head coach Aron Bassoff completes his second season with the Patriot Ladies. He sees improvement in his team and remains positive about what lies ahead for the Patriots. “We had some improvement this year,” comments Bassoff. “It was not indicative of our final record but we hope the improvement from this year will show up on next year’s record.”

Bassoff felt that many of his players stood out this year and made a big contribution to the team. Sophomore Leslie Allred ( Anderson County, TN) scored the most goals for the Patriots with a total of 16. Bassoff had this to say about Allred: “She became a consistent goal scorer as the season went on.” Allred also added six assists. Sophomore Nery Saucedo ( Bartow, FL) also performed well at the outside midfield position. She confidently took on her opponents one-on-one and consistently beat them. Freshman C.J. Link ( Fairfield, OH) stood out as a consistent midfielder and continued to improve as the season went on.

The Patriots Ladies had many athletes that were honored at the Mid-South Conference Banquet. Sophomore Rebecca Rube ( Louisville, KY) was named to the first team All-Conference. Rube scored a total of 11 goals this season and tallied 4 assists. Freshman Tammi Kerr ( Edinburgh, Scotland) was named to the second team All-Conference. Kerr mainly played defense but still accounted for two goals and one assist on the year. Honorable mention All-Conference included sophomore Allred, freshman Davin Caudill ( Frankfurt, KY), Saucedo, and Link.

Academic All-Conference members include Allred, junior Katie DeLozier ( Louisville, KY), sophomore Jamie Dubeck ( Clarksville, TN), senior captain Tori Hogg ( Washington D.C.), junior Ashley Kennerly ( Lawrenceburg, KY), and Saucedo.

Members named as NAIA-Daktronics Scholar Athletes include Hogg, junior goalkeeper Bethany Ott ( Knoxville, TN), and Delozier.

Bassoff has high hopes for next season and wants his team to continue to improve. “We will continue to work on our preparation to establish a culture of winning,” adds Bassoff. “Understanding preparation is the key to us getting to the level we want to be at.”
