Media Regulations
| Mission Statement |
The University of the Cumberlands Office of Sports Information serves the athletic department with the promotion, publicity, and information service of the institutions wide range of sports for both men and women. Intercollegiate programs for men include football, basketball, tennis, golf, baseball, soccer, swimming, track, wrestling, cross country and cheerleading. Women Patriot teams compete in basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, cross country, softball, swimming, golf, track, wrestling and cheerleading. The office is responsible for encompassing promotion and publicity of the athletic programs and events to include news releases, promotional materials and activities, and the design and maintenance of the athletic website. Additionally, the sports information office serves as a host to local and visiting media for assigned home competitions, reports information to conference and national athletic affiliations, and produces and maintains accurate college athletic historical files. |
| Media Services and Policies |
Interviews: All interviews with University coaches, student-athletes and staff members must be arranged through the Office of Sports Information. After games, matches, and other athletic events, locker rooms are generally off limits to members of the media. Player and coach interviews, however, may be conducted outside locker room entrances or on the playing surface after a minimal, 10-minute cooling off period for participants. |
Practices: Practices are generally open to members of the media. Prior knowledge of attendance, however, is a much appreciated gesture. |
Game Day Coverage and Press Passes: Any media covering a game, match, or other contest hosted by the University is asked to reserve a press credential at least 24 hours prior to the event, unless one has been mailed to them prior to the event (at the beginning of each year, student athletes are asked to provide hometown media outlets and passes are sent out accordingly). While last minute media are welcome, prior knowledge of your arrival is much appreciated. For all sports, the Office of Sports Information will provide statistical information and/or box scores as soon after the each home match as possible. |
Press Conferences: In the event of a press conference, the primary media covering the University's Athletics will be notified as far in advance as possible. To be added to the primary media list, contact the Office of Sports Information. |
Game Programs, Game Notes, and Media Information: Pre-game information may be obtained from the Office of Sports Information. If notes, programs, etc., are not available, the Office of Sports Information will assist members of the working media in any way possible to ensure accurate reporting. |
Technology: At all University Athletic Events, a general phone, fax-line, internet access, and photocopier will be made available to members of the working media. The Office of Sports Information will be made available before, during, and after events. |
Radio: Any visiting radio broadcasts must reserve their seating and phone lines at least two weeks in advance of the covered event. While late-comers are welcome, phone lines and seating can not be guaranteed. For football and basketball, one analog phone line will be reserved for visiting radio, whether previous arrangements have been made or not. |
Photographers: Photographers are asked to stay between the 30-yard line and the end zone for football and in the respective end zones for basketball. For all other sports, standard shooting spots may be utilized. Similar policies apply for credentials and seating reservations. |
Photo Regulations: Any photo displayed on the University Athletic Web Sites is property of the Office of Sports Information and cannot be used in any way without express written consent of Jennifer L. Wake-Floyd, Sports Information Director. |
| Professionalism |
Our Office of Sports Information embraces and strives to reflect the high ideals of the University of the Cumberlands. It is our intent to provide our services in a highly professional manner that exemplifies sincerity, dedication, and integrity. In the delivery of our service and consistent with our institutional values and the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) code of ethics, we intend to observe these basic tenets: |
* Be mindful of the fact that we represent a Christian institution of higher learning. |
* Recognize that intercollegiate athletics are an integral part of our college experience, but not the primary endeavor, and promote them accordingly. |
* Maintain loyalty to the college, athletic administrators, and coaching staffs. |
* Maintain respect for the student athletes and their values -- never sacrificing their confidence. |
* Maintain professional relations with the media mindful of fairness with regards to the distribution of information. |
