The ladies swept Mid-South Conference newcomer St. Catharine in three sets (25-10, 25-15, and 25-12), displaying a wide array of talent whether it was the towering presence of Lauren Taylor (Villia Hills, KY), and the slammed kills delivered from Taran Johnson (London, KY), or the overall team moral from the sidelines. The standing bench was full of praise and encouragement, screaming and applauding for their teammates until the night was over. Taylor recorded four kills, 16 assists, and six digs. Another breakout player contributing to the success of the team included Kaylyn Suttles (Cincinnati, OH) with three kills and eight digs. Along with teamwork, each player fulfilled their roles to tally the team a victory.
Unfortunately while on the road, the tables were turned as the team traveled to Indiana University Southeast. The ladies were upset in three sets (18-25, 23-25, and 15-25). The Patriots battled hard, coming close in the second set, but fell short to the Lady Grenadiers in the end. Working hard to help the team was freshman Kathleen Betourne (Clearwater, Fl) with eight digs on the night. Lauren Taylor also had a game high five kills and one dig, while Taran Johnson (London, KY) and Erika Barnes (Fairfield, OH) tallied four kills a piece.
The Patriots host their next game on Tuesday, September 23rd against conference rivals Lindsey Wilson College at 7pm. On Friday, September 26th the team will travel to Cumberland University for a weekend tournament against Pikeville, Brescia, Cumberland University, and Union University.
