Lady Swimmers Finish Third in NAIA

 


The University of the Cumberlands (Formerly Cumberland College) Women’s Swim Team competed in St. Louis, MO March 1-4, 2006. The ladies returned home with a third place finish in the 2006 NAIA National tournament. Eight of Cumberlands ladies and four relay teams finished with top 12 times. These top athletes include:

· Jessica Harrison (Kennesaw, GA) – 500 Free, third (5:10.98), 1650 Free, third (18:03.88), and 200 Free, ninth (1:58.06)

· Lane Royer (Knoxville, TN) – 50 Free, eleventh (25.0) and 200 Free, twelfth (1:59.33)

· Christen Heideman (Tallahassee, FL) – 100 Fly, second (58.32), 200 Fly, second (2:08.16), and 500 Free, fifth (5:13.60)

· Laurie Anderson (Tullahoma, TN) – 500 Free, ninth (5:21.83), 200 Free, eleventh (1:58.90), and 100 Free, eleventh (58.40)

· Sara Crooke (Rutledge, TN) – 1650 Free, fourth (18:10.08), 400 IM, seventh (4:48.21), and 500 Free, seventh (5:13.73)

· Women’s Relays – 800 Free, third (8:00.65), 400 Medley, third (4:03.43), 400 Free, third (3:38.00), and 200 Free, fifth (1:40.99)

· Carol Clayton (Woodstock, GA)- 100 Fly, fourth (59.92), 200 Back, fourth (2:10.51) and 200 Fly, fourth (2:13.93)

· Catherine Mack (Boca Raton, FL) – 1650 Free, eighth (18:39.84)

· Lindsay Madsen (Del Ray Beach, FL) – 100 Breast, eighth (1:09.00) and 200 Breast, ninth (2:30.77)

Christen Heideman and Jessica Harrison earned All-American status, as well as the 800 Free, 400 Medley, and 400 Free Relay teams. The 800 Free team included Layne Royer, Laurie Anderson, Jessica Harrison, and Christen Heideman. The 400 Medley consisted of Carol Clayton, Lindsay Madsen, Christen Heideman, and Lane Royer. Lane Royer, Laurie Anderson, Sara Crooke, and Jessica Harrison completed the 400 Free team.

“Our women’s team had a very good weekend with eight of our twelve members scoring within the top 12,” commented Coach Garry Nelson. “Our team is very young this year. Even though we had a good showing, we are looking forward to next year.”
