University of the Cumberlands Volleyball 04-05 Preview
The University of the Cumberlands Volleyball Team has made some great strides since the beginning of the season last year. With a team full of younger players, the Patriot Ladies finished the season with a 20-17 record. Even though it was a winning record, the team has the potential to improve. As many of the returning players will have another year of varsity experience behind them, the 2004 season looks bright for the Patriot Ladies.
The Volleyball Team lost two valuable players to graduation last year. Tonya Fogelman and Amber Mullins, both excellent defensive players, will be greatly missed from the Patriot's side of the court. Hard hitting freshman Tara Suttles, of Cincinnati, OH, will help fill the outside hitting vacancy and will immediately make an impact.
Mid-South Conference First Team All-Conference member Marla Harris will once again be a force from behind the net. She will bring here powerful hitting and stunning blocking ability to the right side. Senior Lisa VanBerkel will also contribute greatly this season. She will provide a huge block at the net and will boost the offense immensely.
Head Coach Jon Campbell comments, "I believe we will have a much stronger team this season. During spring practices, we made some changes to our defense that worked well and will benefit us this season. I think we will also be strong offensively with our experienced hitters."
The Patriot Ladies will be in the hunt for the Mid-South Conference Championship once again this year. Cumberlands will have several conference games as they play each MSC team twice during the season. With the experience and talent that is on the team, the University of the Cumberlands Volleyball team will look to spike their competition.
