University of the Cumberlands Volleyball Wrap-Up 2005

With a new head coach and a young roster, this year’s team showed that they have a lot of potential and are willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Under new management by former Patriot volleyball standout, head coach Amanda Walton and assistant coach Kara Clemenz, the Volleyball Patriots posted an overall record of 20-19.

This year’s team showed signs of strength and determination as they fell on hard times. Although times were difficult, the Patriot ladies worked diligently to pull themselves out of their slump. This year’s team graduated two incredible defensive specialists as they bid farewell to seniors Marie Vickers ( Knoxville, TN) and Traci Snyder ( Harrison, TN). This season alone Vickers and Snyder tallied up 56 and 34 serving aces, respectively. The pair also brought in over 1000 digs, with Snyder bringing in 663 and Vickers with 472.

The junior class also brought in much needed strength with forces like Liz Bowling ( Louisville, KY) and Anna Clemenz ( Bellbrook, OH). Bowling lead the team with 1134 assist this season, while Clemenz controlled the net with 334 kills. The freshman class will be one to keep an eye on with hard-hitter Taran Johnson (London, KY) bringing in 320 kills and Katie Tinsley (Louisville, KY) setting-up for 1083 assist.

This young team is looking forward to the talent they have already seen and are eager to see what new talent will be brought in next year. It will be difficult to replace such exceptional defensive specialist’s such as Vickers and Snyder, so next season’s team will definitely have their work cut out for them.

The Patriot Ladies will have several key returnees next season including Bowling, Clemenz, Johnson, and Tinsley. The volleyball team will return to the nets in the fall when they will be joined by several new faces and a new excitement that should help them take hold of a Mid-South Conference championship.
