Coach Andrew Medders is entering his third year as the head coach of the Men's Wrestling team. After serving as an assistant under Cumberlands founding coach, Jess
Wilder, Medders stepped up to the plate. He took to the mat the values and goals that Wilder had taught him and took his Patriot wrestling team to a repeated third place finish in 2006 in the NAIA Championships in just his first year at the helm.
Medders was graduated from the University of the Cumberlands (formerly Cumberland College) in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Movement Leisure Studies. During his tenure as a member of the men's wrestling team, Medders was a four-time All American, two-time National Finalist, a National Champion, and a team captain. Among his many honors, Medders was ranked in the top 20 of all divisions.
Medders was inspired to become a coach because of the difference former coaches made in his life. His goal for this season is no less than a national championship. He also wants to continue and strengthen the brotherhood among the team.
Medders commented, “I have learned so much from Coach Wilder and I feel that I am up to the challenge [of coaching the team]. We are a strong program that will continue to grow. I have been a part of the program for eight years now and I believe in it.”
Mr. Dan Moody
Assistant Coach - Men's Wrestling
Coach Dan Moody enters his second year as an Assistant Coach for the Men's Wrestling Team. Moody hails from Lexington, KY and was a four year varsity member of the
Cumberlands wrestling team. He graduated in 2006 with a B.S. in Education and is currently working towards his Masters Degree in Teaching.
Coach Moody believes the best thing about being a coach is developing the abilities of student athletes and getting to know the guys on the team. "I think our team has great potential," comments Moody. "UC provides the chance for our athletes to become outstanding in both competition and in life."
Coach Moody has also served as an Assistant Coach at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington during the 1998-1999 season. Upon graduation from UC, Moody hopes to teach English and Math at the middle school level.
Mr. Ken Prophete
Assistant Coach - Men's Wrestling
Coach Prophete is entering his first year as a UC Men's Wrestling Assistant Coach and graduate assistant. He graduated from Cumberlands in 2007 with a B.S. degree in Biology and Public Health and is currently working towards his Masters degree.
During his time at UC, Prophete had an outstanding wrestling career. He was a 3 time National Qualifier, a 2003 JCNCAA All-American, and 3 time team captain. Coach Prophete came to Cumberland from Riviera Beach, FL where he was a State Champion for his high school.
Prophete is very excited about coaching the men's team this year. "Patriot wrestling is in my blood," states Prophete. "It's easy to get close to a group of guys with the same champion mentality."
