University of the Cumberlands Women's Wrestling 04-05 Wrap-up
The University of the Cumberlands women’s wrestling team concluded their season on April 30, 2005. According to TheMat.com, the University's ladies held the number one ranking in North America for the entire 2004-2005 wrestling season. The Patriot ladies finished their very successful season with eight members placing within the top eight of the Senior National Tournament.
Leading the way for the Patriots was rising senior Alaina Berube (Escanaba, MI). Berube came from a third place finish last season to claiming the national title in the 63-kilogram division. Heather Martin (Wellington, OH) finished her first season with the Patriots in third place in the 67-kg weight class. Rising senior Shelly Ruberg (Harrison, OH) concluded her third season in fourth place at 67-kg. Suekoilya Shelly (Bedford, TX) finished the national competition in fourth place in the 59-kg division.
Competing at the 72-kg division was Tabetha Golt (Chesapeake, VA). Golt completed her first season with a seventh place finish. Jessica Medina (Pomona, CA) finished her freshman season in eighth place at 48-kg. Megan Nevill (Claire, MI) ended her second season with the Patriots in eighth place in the 63-kg weight class. Also finishing in eighth place was Elizabeth Hernandez (Valrico, FL) in the 72-kg division.
Berube, Martin, Ruberg, Shelly, and Golt each earned the opportunity to compete at the World Team Trails at Iowa State University June 18-19, 2005 for their outstanding performance at Senior Nationals.
Senior Toccara Montgomery (Cleveland, OH) is looking to return next season from a knee injury acquired last November. Montgomery is hopeful to compete in the World Team Trials in June.
The Patriot ladies will only be losing only one senior. Brenda McDaniels (Boston, MA) will be graduated from Cumberlands in May. McDaniels competed in the 55-kilogram division for the Patriots.
The Patriot ladies look to a young and talented team to maintain the University's number one ranking in North America for the 2005-2006 season.
