Wacky Wednesdays

What a week. I’ve had two exams, Mock juries, and optional departmentals. Was that still a foreign language for you? Let me fill you in…

Juries: the final for my Voice Lesson and Voice/Diction classes. I perform one of my songs, and then the Jury chooses my second selection.

Departmental: the recital practices that are basically mandatory for all Voice and Instrumental majors, where we listen to others perform as well as perform ourselves. Formal Departmentals are with both sections together, and the performers are picked by the professors. Informals are for anyone, and are separate. There are a few optional Departmentals during the semester for those who were sick and couldn’t get in all their performances.

So this Wednesday, I did my performance. But we won’t talk about that, I have more interesting news!

Wednesday evening was centered around some sad events. A current UC blogger, Natasha, has a family member that has passed away. Our blogging supervisor, Jordyne Gunthert, and current Music and Theatre major, Angel Johnson, decided to do our share in comforting and come to the visitation. I can’t even imagine what Natasha is going through right now, but I’m praying for her and hoping she still has a good Christmas and break and finals and allll that’s coming up. So heartbreaking.

However, Jordyne can’t stay in sadness too long. After heading back to the Burg, we realized we had a deep hunger (well, more of just a longing to not be back on campus yet) for some kind of delicious food, and amidst fooling with the radio, discussing musicals, and declaring our huge appreciation for popcorn, Jordyne decided to stop by a movie theater and do WHAT? Get popcorn. No, we didn’t see a movie. WE WALKED INTO THE THEATER AND LEFT WITH POPCORN IN HAND. I’m sorry, but does this not seem crazy to anyone else? I was entirely thrown off. My days are all planned, and probably numbered. But no, our driver throws some safe spontaneity in the mix. Then, we ventured to Applebee’s, where apparently you can get “carside to-go food” that this small town girl had never heard of. She even bought me hot chocolate! Sorry I don’t have a picture of it; it was gone in a flash. Perfectly mixed with my Movie cinema popcorn :)

As diverse as the day was, I’m glad it happened. I’m happy to have my last Departmental performance for the semester out of the way, and even though I hated that my friend was in need of comfort, I am glad I could be there to support her. And lastly, even though I’m prone to my uptight, over-analytical, structured, planned ways, I did enjoy a random car ride of popcorn and hot chocolate.

But not enough to do it again anytime soon.

Maybe next year, Jordyne! :)
