The first day of the rest of your life

On Saturday, August 18th , 2012 , I left my small hometown of Barbourville , Kentucky for University of the Cumberlands in Willamsburg , Kentucky! The car was loaded, the hour drive was ahead of us, my mom’s eyes were slowly filling with tears of pride and I was a wild case of emotions including (and especially) excitement!

When we pulled into the cramped parking lot of Gillespie Hall I was greeted and welcomed by faculty members offering to help carry my belongings into my dorm. One of my two roommates had already arrived and was already settled in and helped me organized my stuff in a quick manner, seeing as our other roommate would be here shortly. I wasn’t too nervous, the campus was welcoming and I was rooming with two of my best friends since elementary school!

After I got settled in it was time for my family to leave me. This hadn’t upset me until I had to see my mom and sister cry when they left. But I knew no matter how much they missed me they were proud of where I was going and they were proud of the school I had picked!

After they left me and my roommates decided to go out and wander the campus but before doing so decided to check in with the RA’s (room assistance) to ask what the rules were about being out late. It was a bit of a shock to hear “After midnight the doors lock and you have to through the bock building to get in but other than that its up to you what you want to do. You’re adults now!” It was a little weird, we weren’t really sure what to do with ourselves. After walking around campus for a bit and then hanging out with some classmates, it had really hit us. Just like all those scenes you see in movies , we were here , we were in College!!!
