Track Life

Track Life

It was our first home track meet this year and it was going to be special because we only have two this year and one of those is our conference meet. Having a track meet at home showed me how much school spirit our school has! There were kids from the college helping and working the events for us and helping out in any way possible.

The atmosphere was very hyped up because there were many teams there (around 15) and the UC athletes had to compete well for all their friends and  family members that had traveled down to see them. I’m going to to have to say that one of the best parts of the meet would have to been that the UC athletes got free food.

Being a college athlete it more than a lifestyle – it’s a privilege. I have come to learn this as the year has went on. It’s really a privilege to play on any college athletic team, no matter how big or little. Being a college athlete has taught me the real value of family and what it actually means to be an athletic team. I love the feeling that I have acquired of my team having my back and just having someone I can go to if I ever need anything, especially my coaches. I know that they would do anything for me, no matter how late or anything.

I love you all and hope you have enjoyed what I had to say – if you get a chance come to our last home meet of the year, you should come down! It’s going to be a great atmosphere for conference!

Good Times!

The Power Rangers Unite!

You know that you have found a crazy group of friends when you call yourselves, “The Power Rangers”! This group of friends I have acquired I have had since the beginning of the school year or longer. We have grown closer and closer since we’ve been at UC. I’m so happy that I meet every one of these people and that they have became my friends. This is just one of the things we do when we all get together.  I love all these guys – they are the best!

Easter!!!

Easter!!!

Well, it is Easter week and you can feel the excitement of everyone due to the 3-day weekend we have due to Good Friday. The school was pretty much a ghost town on Thursday because everyone went home for Easter. I didn’t get to go home because I had a track meet, but it was okay because the track meet was a good time. It was a division 3 meet, which meant tuff competition. Not getting to go home due to the track meet is just one of the reasons why a college athlete has to be more dedicated to what they are going to do.

The track meet lasted 2 days in a row, both the Friday and Saturday of Easter weekend. We left Friday morning at 7:30 and stayed the night about 10 minutes away from the track. We ran that day and then left around 6:30 and arrived back at UC at around 11:30 or 12:00.  The bus ride wasn’t that bad because we got to watch movies the way back, but most people slept the whole way!

It was finally Easter Sunday so I woke up and picked up my girlfriend Emily Rose, Caleb Ealy, and Austin Peters and we headed to church for a good Easter service. After the service Emily and I went and ate with my family for Easter dinner. It was a very good Easter because even if you didn’t get to go home for Easter, it was ok because The Kingdom Productions threw an Easter party for anyone that wanted to come!

Concerts

Concerts

So I went to my first two concerts in 2 weeks – it was so amazing. The first I went to was Lecrae concert in Tennessee, which was really amazing. Lecrae is a Christian rapper. He was there with Dee-1 and propaganda. We took about 15 people from UC and it was an awesome time to get to hang out with new people. The show lasted about 2 hours. I didn’t even know about it till like a week before. Anyone and everyone was allowed to go – you just had to get up with Casey Hamm (our Semester Campus Missionary) and tell him you wanted to go.  There are so many opportunities have fun and get to know new people.

My second concert was Winter Jam 2013 at Rupp arena in Lexington, Ky. It was my second concert and my first time at winter jam. It was an awesome time, partly because it was free – but also because I got to go with my church back at home! We also had V.I.P. passes and got to sit on the floor about 10 rows back from the stage. It was also good because I got to hang out with some old friends back from my hometown. If you have never been then I would suggest going because it is a very good experience.

Check out this Concert video, too!

Spring Break

The UC gang

Spring break

Hey ya’ll! I’m just getting back from what would have to be the best spring break ever. I didn’t have your regular spring break. I went on a mission trip called Beach Reach through BCM (Baptist Campus Ministries). Me and 5 other people from UC traveled to one of the big party places for spring break – Panama City Beach. We met up with the other 4oo plus students from different various colleges and churches from different places.

New peeps!

The first night during worship, the speaker said that some of us aren’t down here for other people, some people are down here for themselves and to find themselves in God. There were three things we could do at night for the mission. The first was free van rides, where we gave van rides to any one who called the base number and we would just go pick them up. Second was the street team in which groups of people would walk around talking to people about God and their relationship with him and last was a prayer room, where people would just pray for the van rides and street teams and other various things.

Probably the best parts of the trip was getting to get baptized in the Gulf of Mexico and getting to grow in my relationship with God. I also met a lot of people and made many new friends. At UC, there are plenty of ways to help out. I think there were several other mission trips that went other places during spring break, too. So when you get to UC, don’t be afraid to get involved cause there are plenty of ways to do so!

Birthday FUN

My Birthday

Well, my birthday was coming up and I was kind of excited for it, but at the same time indifferent. My birthday is March 2nd 1993. I was born 20 years ago and have lived a good healthy 20 years now. I hit the big 20, so many people asked me how it felt to be an adult now and my response was that if felt no different.

The Friday before my birthday I left UC to go home for a day to celebrate with my mom’s side of the family and Emily Rose. It was a really good time we went to the Mexican restaurant and ate. I had forgot their tradition and I got tricked and got hit with whipped cream in the face. Most people would have been embarrassed but I wasn’t I thought it was funny! Then after that just went back to the house and laid around and was lazy.

Then on Saturday I left my house and went to my dad’s to celebrate with him. When I got there we just sat around for a while. My brother was over there and he was excited to see me. So we ventured to Applebee’s to celebrate my birthday which is always fun because it’s so good. My birthday was really good because it doesn’t matter what you get for your birthday, it only matters if you get to spend it with the ones you love and that’s exactly how I got to spend my birthday.

UC Spotlight

UC Spotlight

At the University of the Cumberlands, we give you the chance to express yourself and show the whole college what kind of talent that you have! It’s called Spotlight, and you can get up on stage and show the people what you’re made of. We have different nights in which you sing different kinds of songs. One was “Love or Hate”, and the next one is going to be “90’s” nights, where you have to pick a 90’s song and sing it. Some people sang about love, some about hate. One of the best ones was when one of the participants had some dancers with him. The Spotlight is a very fun time and can get you involved in many more things at UC. Who knows, UC’s Spotlight could be your shot at fame!

Craziness at UC!

At the university of the Cumberlands you never know how anything will turn out. What can seem like an innocent night of studying can some how turn into a circus. We were just studying one evening and our newly acquired friend Caleb Hetrick just happened to stroll by … on his unicycle!

Valentine’s Day

As we all know, Valentine’s Day has just passed and the spirit of love was upon us once again! You could feel it all over the UC campus. Girls with flowers were parading them around and guys with smiles on their faces because their girls were satisfied with their presents they received! Even though I had no one to spend Valentine’s Day with, it was still an awesome day.

In the afternoon, the Grill threw a Hawaiian-themed party where they serve awesome food and had a “Who looks the most Hawaiian” contest. Then after that, there was a Valentine’s Party that The Kingdom Productions and the B.C.M.  put together, it was an awesome time. There was free food, karaoke, and other fun games, but what had to be the best was the after party. All the people that were left to help clean up were in the video. It’s called the Harlem Shake. I hope you enjoy it and hope that you see that there are plenty of ways to have fun here at the University of the Cumberlands.

SNOW DAY AT UC!!!

Snow day at UC

It had been rainy and wet all week without any sign of snow in any direction. We were in class and you could hear people start to chatter.  I looked out side and I saw what all the commotion was – it had started snowing and it was coming down hard! So now I had to sit in class trying to not think about the first snow at UC this year. After class we went out side and enjoyed the beautiful snow that had been very missed at the big UC. Everyone was in awe at the snow and sheer beauty of the snow because some people had never seen snow before and it was their first time!

It snowed for nearly half the day, so the place was pretty much covered in a blanket of white.  Caleb, James, and I were on our way to practice (inside the gym, this time) and threw some snow at each other. I forgot to mention that James is from Florida – he’d never seen snow before! So I ran inside the building and told everyone that they had to come outside and celebrate James’ first snow.  A massive snowball fight with my whole team ensued!! As we were all walking back in to the building, Coach Temple stopped us and said, “ I hope you all got that out of your systems!” I guess we shouldn’t be late to practice again for a snowball fight.

After practice, as we were walking back to our dorm, my roommate Caleb started rolling a snowball on the ground and it became big enough to make a snow man. Even though it was freezing, we stayed outside making a snowman for what seemed to be hours. After we had finally finished and had our showman constructed we stepped back and looked at it. It was a very nice-looking, yet messed up snow man… but that’s not the point! We had a fun time making it and we were proud of it!
