Daniel Boone National Forest

Requirements  This is a permanent full-time position with a duty station of Winchester, Kentucky, located in the heart of the Bluegrass Region. The Daniel Boone National Forest is comprised of four ranger districts and the Supervisor's Office. The Forest also hosts two Job Corps Centers located on the National Forest and assists with another Job Corps center located in south-central Kentucky near Mammoth Cave. The fleet manager position includes duties for the Daniel Boone National Forest (including Law Enforcement), and all three Job Corps centers.
Responsibilities  This position will is part of the engineering unit of the forest. The position is supervised by the Forest Engineer and will include fleet and forest-wide safety responsibilities. Duties include: •Independently plans and administers an established transportation program operation that requires determining the need for new or updated objectives, policies, and guidelines relative to a long established transportation program, e.g., in the areas of safety, licensing, and accident investigation. •Conducts regular analysis of the utilization of all fleet and equipment on the program and determines needed reassignments to increase program effectiveness, efficiency, and economy. •Develops criteria and conducts cost effectiveness analysis of various types of equipment. •Maintains and administers transportation electronic systems, e.g. gasoline credit cards, equipment management information, and equipment ordering. •Provides managers and specialists with advice and guidance on transportation program issues of moderate difficulty requiring the interpretation and adaption of regulations and guidelines. •Prepares recommendations for managers to consider in making decisions for administration of USDA FS’s fleet and equipment. •Acts as Forest Safety Officer as part of collateral duties.
