CC Drumline Alumni
Attention Cumberland College Drumline alumni: if you would like to be
placed on the alumni page, please send a short bio to Mr. Corcoran.
If you are not currently listed on the "Past Lines" page, please let us
know when and what you marched as well. The Alumni page and the Pastlines page are important to us, please consider contributing. Whether you graduated or not, you are important to our history and your knowledge may be just the key we need to unlock the past.
Please tell us when you were at UC, when and what instrument(s) you marched, where you are now, what you are doing (job, family, etc.) and your favorite memories from your time at UC (or CC).

- Attended CC from 1985-1988
Played cymbals in the 1986-87 drumline, pit in the 1987-88 drumline (bad bad bad
move for someone who cannot read music!)
Was briefly a percussion major in 1988 until I realized while I love to play, I had
very little natural talent and ablity! Plus there was that "Summer Strut" fiasco
(had a wonderful marimba solo, which I learned the day of the concert - not good,
right Jason?????? - sax player who's sarcastic comment was caught on the audio
tape!)
Transferred to IUPUI (IU/Purdue in Indianapolis) in 1988 (parents said ...blah blah
- grades not good - blah blah - not spending all that money blah blah for you to
have fun in KY blah) and graduated in 1990 with a degree in
Restaurant/Hotel/Hospitality Management!
Had twin boys, Travis (TJ) and Tret, on 2/2/95, got married 6/10/95. Started
working for Northwest Radiology Network, Inc., a radiology practice, as a medical
transcriptionist in 1998. Moved up to supervisor in 1999. Was divorced in November
2000 and shortly after, had a right mastectomy for breast cancer (age 33).
It's now 2006 and life goes on. I'm still with NWR, but recently stepped down as
supervisor so I could work at home as a transcriptionist and spend more time with my
kids. We bought a house in 2003 and my boys are now 11 years old and in the 4th
grade. One is tall, thin with blond hair and blue eyes and the other short and
round with brown hair and eyes (just like his mom). We have had a myriad of animals
over the years and are now down to a cat. I'm about to step back into percussion
for the first time since 1988 and join my church's Praise band as the "latin
percussion expert!". I'm exited and terrified all at once, but I think it will be
cool for my kids to see me do something that I so enjoyed a million years ago!
Favorite memory - well - it would just have to be all the firsts. The first tiny
little marching band. The first to wear that horrible uniform! The first parade.
Mr. Hall coming in as the first percussion instructor. Oh, and I can't forget being
hit by concert chimes, having my heart broken and having Dave, a snare player in
1987, come in to snap our section into shape. Memories. Ahhhh!
- I attended Cumberland from 2000 to 2004.
I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, although I was almost always mistaken for being a music major from the beginning. I marched 2 of the 4 years that I attended Cumberland and served on the band council. I also performed with the percussion ensemble and jazz ensemble all 4 years.
After graduating I took a job in Corbin, Kentucky where I worked as an interventionist. It wasn't long till I got home sick and moved back to Cincinnati. I am now an education specialist working with MRDD children and teach percussion lessons and drumline ensembles at Beechwood High School and Grant County High School. As always, I thrive on any opportunity to play kit whether local or on the road.
Favorite memories at CC include: Prank phone calls with Matt and Eric - "I'm lost in the woods and I have syrup all over my legs!" (courtesy Matt Halligan), almost getting Mckicked out of McDonalds for trying to order McLemonaide with Matt, Eric and Adam McChesney. "You had to Mcbe there to Mcget it." Also, sneeking out of the hotel to City Walk dance clubs while on the Florida trip - remember this one Matt? John attacking Marsha in the lunch room, the fat girl falling over the railing at Williamsburg High School, Che Buggs noisy athletic pants, singing happy birthday to random people at rehearsal and Mr. Biggs suggestive configurations on drill charts.
- BS in Music, Graduated from Harlan High School
Currently living in Cross
City, Florida working as Assistant Band Director at Dixie Co. High
School. I am also getting ready to start my teacher's certificate
training.
Memories: Most of my favorite memories come from my first
year in college. Some could be Kim making everyone's face turn red in her
own special way, David Marble getting his tongue pierced and not being
able to speak clearly for a while. I also remember going to the Band
Camp Picnic in London and fitting myself, Kim, Sabra, Devonna, and Dave
in my 240 SX, which should not be possible. We went down I-75 with
Kim's feet hanging out the window. To finish up the story, I will say
that Kim made it there with one less shoe. Oh, yeah I can not leave out
the Myrtle Beach trip. No Comment, and what video?
- I marched snare drum in the UC band from 1999-2003, and was section leader
of the drumline in 2002 and 2003.
Currently I'm in Washington D.C. playing marimba for The Commandant's
Own United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps (Ooh Rah)!
My favorite memories would include: "the kicking trees" at Prairie dog junction.
You may notice that there are a few spots where trees "should be" (thanks to the
flat drums of 2001). Rim shot was very influential in my development as a young
man and as a musician. And my infamous quote: "Eric, Eric, can you hear me?...", and
playing Mars was sweet too. The John Clark and Marsha incident of 2000 was
probably the funniest thing that I've seen in my life...
- I marched bass at CC in 2000 and 2001 and snare in 2002 and 2003
before transferring in 2004.
I am currently taking some time off from
college to pay off some loans, but plan to finish up my Music Ed. degree
in a few years. I am currently working at The Communities of Oakwood in
Somerset, Kentucky.
Some of my favorite memories include: Rimshot, The Road Cones, Mark's
Nickname, The time my brakes went out on the way to the Michael Burritt
Clinic and Jim ran across the interstate, The Equipment Truck, the Kicking
Tree, The Brick... the list just goes on and on!
I played snare on the CC drumline from 1986-1989. There was a whopping 5 of us on the first drumline, but we did pretty well. Steve Hall was our instructor at the time.I graduated from CC in 1990 and attended Michigan State University's school of Veterinary Medicine from 1990-1994. I've been practicing veterinary medicine since then and absolutely love it. I married in 1991 and we have a beautiful daughter.
Just after Vet school, we had a great time being in a "bar band" for a year (my husband plays bass guitar). Since then, I've primarily played drumkit in church, which is an awful lot of fun. I keep meaning to join the local concert band, but I just never seem to have enough time.
My favorite band related memories would be: Playing "Pauper in Paradise" in our first percussion ensemble (awesome!), our tiny pep band playing at UK's Rupp Arena for a state-wide band thing and surprising the bigger bands with our sound, being part of the All-Collegiate band, and the drumline my senior year. All the years were fun, but our group that year was just a great bunch of people and we had a blast.
- Attended CC (not UC) 1999-2003. Graduated with a Bachelor's in Music
Education.
After graduation, I decided my musical talents would be
properly utilized working for a city as a water treatment plant
operator. I was mistaken. Currently, I'm living in Richmond,
Kentucky doing some work on a Masters in Music Performance.
Memories of CC that I have include: The "Pie Incident". The trips to
Chattanooga/Bowling Green/Lousiville/Florida. My memories of Myrtle
Beach have been supressed. Playing Zeke and Rhumba every other day.
For some reason, page 26 from the Goldenberg book. Rimshot, bricks,
tetrahedrons, and Jesus is Just Alright measure 75.
- I marched in the UC Drumline from 2003-2007, playing tenors from 03-05, and snare from 06-07. I was section leader from 04-07. I was also a member of the first drumline to play on the new Yamaha drums in 04. While at UC, I taught the North Laurel High School drumline for 2 season, winning bronze and gold at the Tri-state PSB Indoor Drumline Championships.
Currently I am pursuing a masters in Missions at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY. I will be assistant band director at West Jessamine High School, teaching the percussion section there.
My favorite memories at cumberland include: putting rimshot to rest, road cones, van rides with Matt my freshman year, hangnails, basketball in the studio, butterball bowls I-III, hand raising, Simon wrestling, supertag, Evelyn Glennie concert, knocking over tenor pads, B# key, SAC SAC league, and many more.
