High School Students
Choosing a college is a big deal, and once you’ve hit high school it isn’t a bad idea to start thinking about what you’re looking for in an education and in a campus experience. This is your opportunity to do your research, ask questions, tour campuses, hash it out with your parents and finally narrow your options. We know this decision won’t be made overnight, but at University of Cumberlands, we’ll help you at least get the ball rolling. Take a look at our Top 10 Reasons you should consider UC.
Top 10 Reasons UC Should Be Your College of Choice
- Student Life
Our 1,800 undergraduate students hail from 32 countries and 43 states. You’ll have the opportunity to make lifelong friendships on our close-knit campus.
- Affordable Cost
Our cost for tuition, room and board remains below the national average for private four-year colleges and universities. Plus, last year alone, we awarded our students $33 million in scholarships, grants, loans and work-study positions.
- Academic Programs
With over 40 different majors and minors, you’ll be able to explore your options and find the program that fits your career goals. And it’s worth mentioning that 80 percent of our faculty have earned the highest degree in their field, which means you’ll learn from the best.
- Personal Approach to Learning
With a 13:1 student to faculty ratio and an average class size of 27, our faculty and staff are dedicated to making sure you’re successful throughout your time at Cumberlands.
- Commitment to Your Career
Graduates have gone on to work at Fortune 500 companies, government offices, hospitals and more. And within five years of graduation, 66 percent of our alums have completed or are working on a graduate degree.
- Study Abroad Programs
We encourage our students to travel the world and immerse themselves in different cultures. That’s why we offer study abroad opportunities in Belize, England, France and Spain. Broaden your cultural knowledge of business, language, religion and medicine.
Our campus is centrally located between Lexington, KY and Knoxville, TN and allows for weekend trips to Nashville, Louisville and Atlanta. If you enjoy outdoor excursions to lakes, mountains, etc., our location lends itself to state parks and the breathtaking Cumberland Gap, just an hour’s drive away. Walk around campus and take in the spectacular Appalachian scenery!
- Clubs and Organizations
Learn something about yourself through one of our 40+ clubs and organizations on campus. From Mountain Outreach charity organization to Outdoor Club and the Patriot Student Newspaper, this is your chance to try something new and meet your classmates.
- Athletic Programs
If sports are more your speed, get involved in an intramural team including battleship (in the pool!), knocker ball or sand volleyball. If you have more of a competitive spirit, there are 28 intercollegiate NAIA Division I teams including archery, football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, swimming, tennis, golf and more. In fact, we have 13 different varsity level sports for both men and women.
- Housing Options
We think that living on campus gives you the opportunity to make the most out of your college experience. We have 11 residence halls where students gather for late night study and hang out sessions. Beyond where you live, it’s how you live on campus. Unlike many other colleges, laundry is free. This helps you and your parents since you won’t have to ask for rolls of quarters for your holiday gift.
Attending college may not be right around the corner, but it’s not far off either. Now is your chance to start gradually preparing yourself. Make a list of your top picks. Visit campuses. Go to college fairs.
