Chaplain (Colonel) David W. Smartt & Rev. Fred Luter to speak at UC

 


Smartt & Luter will speak on-line in the Master of Arts in Christian Studies program this fall at University of the Cumberlands.

Williamsburg, Ky. – This fall, Chaplain (Colonel) David Smartt and Rev. Fred Luter, Jr. will be featured on-line guest speakers for University of the Cumberlands (UC) Master of Arts in Christian studies.

Chaplain (Colonel) David Smartt is Commandant of the United States Army Chaplain Center and School. He assumed the Commandant responsibility from his previous assignment to the Pentagon as Command Chaplain, Installation Management Command. Prior to that, he served as Director, Information Resource Management and Logistics for the Army Chief of Chaplains at the Pentagon.

Rev. Fred Luter, Jr., is the Senior Pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church (FABC) in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was recently named the 1st Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention. He was born in New Orleans and grew up in the historic “Lower 9th Ward” of the city.

In 1986 Pastor Luter’s life was changed forever when he was elected as pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. At the time Franklin Avenue was a small struggling mission church with about 65 members in attendance.

By 2005 Franklin Avenue had grown to over 8,000 members, making FABC the largest Southern Baptist Church in the state of Louisiana and one of the largest churches in the greater New Orleans area. Pastor Luter has a passion for preaching and teaching the word of God and for reaching and developing followers in the ministry.
