Williamsburg, Ky. On Sunday July 17, Green Meadows Baptist Church (Mocksville, NC) arrived in Williamsburg, KY on a mission to help University of the Cumberlands Mountain Outreach program finish some of their summer home project construction.

The church has been helping Mountain Outreach since 2000 and this year a total of eight members had the opportunity to serve.

“I like this program because we feel like this is God’s calling for us to do something,” said Jimmy Bowles, a member of Green Meadows. “It’s the Lord’s will for us to be here.”

The group was finishing up tasks to complete the Black Oak Road House site. They worked on finishing touches of paint to the walls, putting in cabinets, and other small repairs.

“This program is successful because God is here,” exclaimed Kenny Bowles. “I have been coming since the first trip the church made and I love this program.”

As the summer months are coming to an end and school will get set to reopen for the fall semester, Mountain Outreach inches closer to having all house projects complete.

“I think the good Lord has been with us all summer and we hope to have all three complete by the end of the week,” says Jerry Thomas, a volunteer who has been with the program all summer. “It is our faith in Him that allows us to get it done.”

Mountain Outreach is a University of the Cumberlands ministry, with students and volunteers building more than 130 homes and making repairs and renovations to hundreds more for 27 years.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; nine graduate degrees, including two doctorates, a specialist, and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
