WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.— Rebecca Partin (Williamsburg, KY), a University of the Cumberlands (UC) student, was awarded a $1,000 dollar scholarship by the Williamsburg Grand Commandery of Kentucky Knights Templar on Tuesday, August 23. Partin was presented with the award by Commander Larry Carte and members Terry Pugsley and James Walden.

“Rebecca’s dedication to her faith, her chosen field of study and her service in her church and community led us to make her the recipient of this year’s award,” said Carte. “Her achievements are a worthy reflection on the honor of the ancient Christian warriors whose name we carry.”

Partin is a UC senior and theatre arts major, president of Alpha Psi Omega, the national theatre honor society, recipient of the UC 2011 Performer of the Year Award and member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

She is a life-long resident of Whitley County, active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and a 2008 graduate of Whitley County High School. She is the daughter of UC alums Debra and Randall Partin.

As to the scholarship, Partin said, “It was a really good surprise!”

The Williamsburg Commandery plans to award a scholarship once a year to a UC junior or senior.
