UC Music department presents Jazz Ensemble concert


Louisville, Ky.’s Ron Jones performed with the UC Jazz Ensemble in concert at University of the Cumberlands on Tuesday, October 25th.

Williamsburg, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) music department presented the Jazz Ensemble's first concert on October 25th, 2011 at the Nell Moore Recital Hall as part of this week's Homecoming festivities. The ensemble was directed by UC professor David Threlkeld.

The Jazz Ensemble features an exciting blend of brass instruments, played by both students and faculty members on campus. A special addition to this concert included Louisville saxophonist Ron Jones on several numbers, including Charlie Parker's Now's The Time, Milestones by Miles Davis, the lovely ballad Lover Man, the Basie favorite You Can't Win None of 'Em and more.

The UC Jazz Ensemble is an exciting seventeen-piece big band that performs music from a variety of styles including straight-ahead swing, funk, Latin, ballads, bebop and fusion. Under the direction of Threlkeld, this entertaining unit performs often on campus and throughout the southeastern United States. The ensemble is open not only to music majors, but to all UC students and the members frequently represent a variety of major fields of study.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of student; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master's degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
