Cumberland Singers Present Fall Concert


Williamsburg, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Music Department presented the semester concert for the UC Singers vocal group on the evening of Tuesday November 15, 2011 in the Nell Moore Recital Hall, much to the enjoyment of music students and audience members alike. The group is directed by music department chair Jeff Smoak and accompanied by Kay Dawn McFarland during the performance.

The choir performed several holiday music pieces as well as a selection of spirituals and worship pieces. Their music included A Psalm of Praise by Joseph M. Martin, Joyful, Joyful to the World arranged by Jay Althouse and many others. One of their more memorable numbers included a massive arrangement of popular Christmas songs into one medley entitled Christmas Comes About Three Minutes arranged by Mark Weston.

Cumberland Singers, an SATB choir of 60-80 members, is open to all University of the Cumberlands' students. The repertoire includes both sacred and secular selections representing all periods of choral music. Concerts are presented both on campus and in local churches. Cumberland Singers meets twice each week.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of student; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master's degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
